Medieval Montrottier castle is located in the town of Lovagny, some ten minutes from Annecy, next to the Fier River gorge. This castle, a beautifully preserved example of Savoyard military architecture, contains vast collections of weapons, porcelains, tapestries, period furniture, and, curiously, art objects from the Far East. It is perched atop a hill which dominates the countryside. The cobblestone courtyard, medieval watchtowers and Renaissance gallery form a surprisingly harmonious structure.
Tours for English or Italian-speaking groups may be scheduled in advance. French language tours are available every day from March 15 to October 15 and are led by certified guides of the Savoie Heritage group (GPPS); please note that the castle is closed on Tuesdays except between June 1 and August 15, when it is open seven days a week.
